Beware-Thistles

I am just finishing with Psalm 14 and I thought that I would share my observations.

Very Rough Summary: God is good..He looks for good people...He finds evil people...Don't despair, He sides with the poor...He sides with the Righteous...He can turn the whole situation around...(I said that it was rough)

Interesting phrase: In Psalm 14:1, David is describing evil people:

They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good. NIV

This is a pretty awful picture, but then I read The Message and I was able to see just how awful it really was:

Their words are poison gas, fouling the air; they poison Rivers and skies; thistles are their cash crop.

I would not have thought twice about this verse for most of my life, but I married a wonderful man who has wonderful farmer parents and they share all sorts of new information with me and by being their daughter-in-law, I cannot help but know that thistles are the evilest of weeds. My father-in-law knows all about weeds (I get confused on their names - - Horse Tail, Pig Snout, Cat Butt....I am still learning) and I have been given eloquent exposition's from both my in-laws on the truly horrific purpose of a thistle. They are no good, over-powering, life-sucking plants whose sole purpose is to cause ruin and destruction. In fact, they are illegal if I remember correctly and I seem to remember that they took over the world a few decades ago during a terrible dark summer. I can identify them by sight and in solidarity to my new farming heritage, whenever I spot one, I spit over my shoulder and yell "You cursed, cursed thistles!!!!"
Therefore, I feel much more intensity when reading this verse now and feel the horridness of what sin does to a man and a world.

P.S. My brain just hurts for normal every-day reasons, and it is feeling much better today. Thanks to those that asked about it.

P.P.S. I love to watch kids giggle.

P.P.P.S. There was a young black and white cat under our car last night when we left church that was meowing up a storm. We finally coaxed her out and she was limping, however she wouldn't let us near her so we left empty-handed. I had to scrape my heart up off the pavement before we drove away. Poor little dejected kitten. All for the best, however, as Daniel mentioned if we started that habit, we would have a dozen cats in the blink of an eye. True...

I love the names of your weeds...!!!

Are there children't stories hidden in you just waiting to be published? Or adult stories for children like me? how about a collection of Jennifer's collected devotional wisdom?

Love you, MA blogger
